| Field notes | As WLE189, but with no persistent leaves, clearly visible crownshaft, shorter leaves (to ca. 120 cm, shortest ca. 30 cm). Stem infested by insects likely causing stunted growth (WLE189: Clustering understorey palm, stem to 3-4 m high, 2-3 cm diam., internodes up to 10-15 cm, green with dense reddish, almost black indumentum. Ca 7 leaves in crown, shuttlecock, litter trapping, old leaves persisting on stem. Leaves bifid or broadly pinnate. Crownshaft 30 cm, sheaths pale green with red-black indumentum that continues on rachis. Petiole 0-10(-15) cm. Leaf to 150 cm long, split in distal 30-40 cm.
