Field notes Large solitary understory palm, stem ca. 0.5m high, 15-20cm wide including persistent leaf sheats, litter trapping. 11 leaves in crown, ca. 3m long, regulary pinnate, 30 pinnae per side, in one plane, slightly ascending at base. Petiole 1m, dark green on upper surface, mid green below. Spines yellow. Up to 20cm long spines on sheath/petiole base. Inflorescences upright, bracts persistent, 8 first/order branches, 50cm long
