| Field notes | Solitary tree palm to c.20m. Crown with c.15 leaves. Stem 30cm diameter. Crownshaft 2m. Sheath: c.1.5m long, covered with buff coloured. furry indument which turns black with age. Leaf: 3m long including 40 cm petiole. rachis strongly recurved distally. Leaflets: 70 each side of rachis, ascending. Inflorescences: 7 present, youngest at female anthesis, oldest with fruit beginning to ripen. brush-like, peduncle 6cm. rachis 15cm, up to c.28 branches, branches cream when young turning green with age. Fruit: c. l cm diameter, spherical, turning red during ripening, endosperm homogeneous. |
