| Field notes | Massive, squat, solitary tree palm, with ea. 24 leaves in crown, forming shuttlecock-shaped crown. Visible stem 3 m up to the base of the lowest leaf sheath (other individuals seen to 10 m), height to top of leaf sheaths ea. 5 m, stem diameter ea. 40 cm. Leaf 4.5-5 m long including 1-1.5 m leaf sheath, stiff brown fibres on sheath margins. Leaflets 40-60 each side of rachis (based on several palms), regularly arranged, held almost flat (ea. 160 degree angle throughout).Inflorescence female (fruitirJg), branched to 1 order, nestling among leaf sheaths with peduncle mostly concealed by sheaths, rachis 80 cm long including terminal rachilla, ea. 60-70 rachillae,Degraded humid forest on quartzite ridgetop |
