Field notes Solitary, robust tree palm, at least 30 m tall. Stem diam. c. 35 cm, internodes 2.5 cm. Crownshaft well defined, 135 x 15 cm. Sheath 116 cm long, dark purple when young, soft, orange/brown indumentum. Leaves 15 in crown 210 cm long including 30 cm petiole, leaves recurved, leaflets 42 each side, regulary arranged. Inflorescence infrafoliar, 11 present, resembling a horse´s tail, 90 cm long including 11 cm peduncle,branched to 2 orders, with 31 rachillae, 16 first order branches, largest first order branch 70 cm long, prophyll 99 x 10 cm, 1st peduncular bract 94 x 9 cm, both bracts purple. Fruit red, 15 x 10 mm, endosperm homogeneous
