| Field notes | Clustering, moderately robust rattan to c.6m. Stem diameter with sheaths 30mm, without sheaths 25mm. Internode 10cm. Sheath dark green with abundant thick wooly indumentum (also on leaf rachis) and dense, fine black-brown spines. Leaf 92cm long including 7cm petiole. Leaflets 16 each side of rachis, arranged in pairs, some indument on leaflet margins and midribs, leaflets difficult to cut due to the presence of numerous silky thread-like fibres. Inflorescence 218cm long including 33cm peduncle, 13 partial inflorescences, space between partial inflorescences 25cm. Cane for tying timbers in construction. Vernacular: Tipa, Dialect: Awin |
