| Field notes | Lowland tropical rainforest on karst limestone river banks. Massive solitary canopy tree palm to c.20m. Stem diameter c.20cm. Internode 18 cm. Crown with 12 leaves. Leaf c.4m long including 1.5m petiole. Leaflets 52 each side of rachis. Sheath with copious felt-like orange indumentum. Inflorescence 160cm long, branched to 3 orders, with c.40 primary branches, largest primary branch c.70cm long, whorl of 5 primary branches at base of branched part of inflorescence, rusty indumentum on peduncle and rachis. Fruit immature, c.4cm diam., orange-brown when young, maturing to greenish yellow. Trunk used for making floor boards. |
