Field notes Solitary. Stem 2m, covered with persistent remains of sheath and petiole. Leaves 16, erect, arching, rachis twisted so pinnae appear in a vertical plane; sheath+ petiole 250 x 40 x 13 cm, channeled above, rounded below margins with fibers, these 20 cm x 5 mm, brown abaxially; rachis 830 x 11 9 cm channeled to plane with a prominent ridge, rounded below, brown; pinnae 187 per side, opposite to subopposite, regular distributed, appearing in one plane, middle pinnae 130 x 6.5 cm, basal pinnae 110 x 1.0 cm. Inflorescence (staminate) 10 (decaying) + 1 bud, interfoliar, prophyll dropped (persistent), peduncular bract 272 x 23 cm (persistent), cream inside, glabrous, brown outside, longitudinally fissured; peduncle 150 x 8 x 6 cm, oval in cross section, rachillae 30 cm long creamy, covered with fine white scales, flowers all round rachillae 8 cm apart base, petals 3, 0.9 cm long, freshly, yellow, stamens 6, petals longer than stamens, petals 3, not coiled. Infructescence 1; prophyll dropped; peduncular bract 280 cm long; peduncle about 200 cm long; rachis 140 cm; rachillae, numerous,: 1-6 fruit per rachillae, each rachillae terminating with staminate flowers. Fruits about 2000. N.V. Shapaha. U.B. 5A Same locality. fruits collected from ground underneath an adult individual of Scheelea. About 10 fruits per rachillae. Fruits mature, 3 x 2 cm, smaller than fruits collected in U.B. 5
