Field notes Solitary understory palm. Acaulescent. Base with few visible roots. Leaves 12; sheath 30 cm long, open, with 7 cm long black spines; petiole 50 cm long, section round, with to 5 cm long black spines; rachis 140 cm long, with 5 cm long black spines; lamina pinnate, 180 cm long, 90 cm wide, bushy, glabrous; pinnae 14-16 per side, irregularly inserted in groups of 2-4; basal pinna 48 cm long, middle pinna 52 cm long, apical pinna 50 cm long. Inflorescence interfoliar; prophyll 10+ cm long, 4 cm wide, brown, woody; peduncular bract 27 cm long, inserted 3+ cm from base, brown to black, woody, with to 1 cm long brown/black spines; peduncle 13 cm long, 1.3 cm wide, with to 0.1 cm long brown spines; rachis 8 cm long, 0.8 cm wide; rachilla 26, 5-10 cm long. Flowers cream, sessile. Silicagel sample taken. Transect: HB 762, subunit no. 54, inside transect
