Field notes Solitary understory palm. Stem 1 m high, 4 cm thick; internodes 2-3 cm long, brown, smooth. Leaves 12; sheath 40 cm long, open, with to 10 cm long black spines; petiole 110 cm long, section round, with to 7 cm long black spines; rachis 180 cm long, with to 7 cm long black spines; lamina pinnate, 215 cm long, 90 cm wide, bushy, glabrous; pinnae 19-20 per side, irregularly inserted in groups of 3-4; basal pinna 40 cm long, middle pinna 58 cm long, apical pinna 45 cm long. Infructescence interfoliar; prophyll 15 cm long, 6 cm wide, brown, woody; peduncular bract 50 cm long, inserted 3 cm from base, brown, woody, with to 2 cm long black/brown spines; peduncle 22 cm long, 2 cm wide, with to 1 cm long black/brown spines; rachis 8 cm long, 1 cm wide, with to 1 cm long black/brown spines; rachilla 25, 10-15 cm long. Fruits green, 1.3 cm long, 1.3 cm wide. Silicagel sample taken. Transect: HB 762, subunit no. 43, inside transect
