Field notes Primary montane rain forest, tierra fierme on slope near river. Midstory, caespitose (6 stems), few visible roots, spines present 3-5 cm, spines color black, stem ca 6 m tall, thikness 4 cm. Internode length 5-6 cm, texture smooth, crownshaft absent. 8 leaves per stem, sheath open, sheath lenght 6 cm, petiole section margined, length 38 cm, petiole 136 cm long. Rachis 94 cm long. Lamina pinnate, width 2.5 m, length 3 m. Lamina structure flat, 13 pinnae per side of rachis. Pinnae insertion grouped, by 3. Middle pinnae length 24 cm. Spines present on sheaths, petiole, rachis, pinnae. Sterile. Urpi Chunda (Quichua)
