Field notes On steep, dry bank in full shade; internodes short, 1.5-4.0 cm diameter; Roots densely packed, 2-3 mm diameter, mostly short, directed upward, bluntly pointed; Cataphylls lanceolate, green, to 2.5 cm long, thin, rotting away; Petioles D- to C-shaped, rounded abaxially, and prominently 5-9 ribbed, flattened-sulcate adaxially, the margins sharply raised, turned inward; Blades subcoriaceous, semiglossy, moderately bicolorous; Midrib convex to obtusely flat-raised and obscurely sulcate above, becoming convex toward middle, rounded and 5-ribbed below at base, the ribs continuing to about middle of the blade below; Primary lateral veins raised both sides; Inflorescences erect-spreading; Spathe green, spreading recurled downward; Spadix prominently stipitate, dark violet-purple; Tepals matte; Stamen becoming weakly exserted
