Field notes Diocious palm with dichotomous branching, to 7 m tall. Palm clustering with 15 stems of varying sizes. Stem grey with several dead leaves attached. Largest stem with crown of 14 green leaves. Leaves costapalmate, costa between 17 cm and 26 cm long. Petiole green in colour, armed with large recurved black spines, and between 75 cm long and 81 cm long. Lamina divided to 30 cm, with between 30 and 35 leaflets. Shortest leaflet between 40 cm and 51 cm long. Male tree with 4 new inflorescences, borne axillary. Inflorescences branching to 2 orders. Rachillae between 5 cm and 13 cm long, male flowers yet to emerge from pits. Leaves are harvested for thatch
