Field notes Solitary, single-stemmed, dioecious palm with stem to 15m tall. Stem clothed in the remains of old leaves. 31 green leaves in the crown. Leaves costapalmate, costa between 38cm and 41 cm long. Petiole dark brown to yellow in colour, armed with recurved black spines, and between 136cm and 148cm long. Lamina divided to 60cm, with between 73 and 80 leaflets. Shortest leaflet between 48cm and 74cm long. Female tree with 5 semi-mature infructescences, unbranched, borne axillary. Fruits yellow in colour and with a flat apex. The palms are in a national park and are protected from exploitation. Several fruits had been consumed by animals though the seeds were abandoned. The only large frugivores present in the park are baboons and elephants. Vernacular: rônier, Dialect: French. Duplicates: K, OUA
