| Field notes | Solitary, single-stemmed, dioecious palm with ventricose stem to 7m tall. Stem grey with several dead leaves attached. Crown of 35 green leaves including 3 unexpanded leaves in the sword. Leaves costapalmate, costa between 57cm and 60cm long. Petiole dark brown to yellow in colour, armed with recurved black spines, and between 153cm and 160cm long. Lamina divided to 60cm, with between 89 and 94 leaflets. Shortest leaflet between 51 cm and 90cm long. Male tree with 12 old inflorescences and 4 immature inflorescences, borne axillary. Inflorescences branching to 2 orders. Rachillae between 57 and 62cm long. Leaves are harvested for thatch and fencing and mature fruits are consumed. Seeds are collected, germinated, and the hypocotyls are harvested for consumption.
