| Field notes | Solitary understory palm. Stem 1.30 m long, 2 cm thick, covered by leaf bases; internodes 2 cm long; base of stem with few visible roots. Leaves 9 per stem; leaf sheath 15 cm long, open, with 1-4 cm long black spines; petiole 42 cm long, section round, with 4 cm long black spines, rachis 50 cm long; lamina entire, 50 cm long, 26 cm wide, glabrous. Inflorescence infrafoliar; peduncular bract 26 cm long, inserted 7.5 cm from base, brown, herbaceous, with 0.3-1 cm long yellow spines; peduncle 8 cm long, 0.3 cm wide; rachis 1 cm long, 0.4 cm wide; rachillae 3, 7-9 cm long.
