| Field notes | Solitary understory palm. Stem with few visible roots at base. Leaves 15; leaf sheath 29 cm long, open, with 1-9 cm long black spines; petiole 94 cm long, with 2-9 cm long black spines; rachis 155 cm long, with black spines; lamina pinnate, 155 cm long, 95 cm wide, bushy; pinnae 20 per side, regularly inserted, basal pinna 49 cm long, middle pinna 52 cm long, apical pinna 46 cm long. Infructescence infrafoliar; peduncle 10 cm long, 1.3 cm wide; rachis 12 cm long, 1.3 cm wide; rachillae 21, 1.2-2.8 cm long. Fruits red with 0.3 cm long black spines, 1.3 cm long, 1 cm wide.
