| Field notes | Cespitose palm in small savanna patch. Stem 1 m long, 30 cm diameter, ascending, with a thick principal stem and many small suckers at the base. Leaves 5 per stem, sheath 80 cm long, open, with grey to 10 cm long spines; petiole 35 cm long, round in cross section, with black-grey spines; rachis 210 cm long, with grey to 5 m long spines below; lamina pinnate, bushy; pinnae 85 per side, inserted irregularly in groups of 1-5, basal pinna 63 cm, middle pinna 75 cm, apical pinna 40 cm long. Infructescence (young) interfoliar; prophyll woody, 22+ cm long, 5 cm wide, with black spines to 10 cm long; peduncular bract brown, woody, 53 cm long, inserted 48+ cm from the base, with black spines to 5 cm long; peduncle 62+ cm long, 3 cm wide, with black spines to 1.5 cm; rachis 10 cm long, 1 cm wide; rachillae ca. 70, 10-15 cm long.
