| Field notes | Cespitose, understory palm with no visible roots. Stems aerial, 3.5 m high, 2.5 cm thick, with 2.5 cm long spines; internodes 9.5 cm long, > stem diameter, brown, smooth. Crownshaft absent. Leaves 6 per stem; sheaths open, 34 cm long, with 3.5 cm long, brown spines; petiole with cross section margined, 34 cm long, with 1 cm long, brown spines; rachis 158 cm long, with 2 cm long spines; lamina pinnate, flat, with 36, regularly inserted, pinnae per side, basal pinna 35 cm, midlle pinna 52 cm, apical pinna 20 cm long. Infructescence interfoliar; peduncular bract 38 cm long, with brown spines; rachillae 5 per rachis, 7 cm long.
