| Field notes | Cultivated palm. Seed origin unknown. Solitary tree palm, 8m of stem to the leaves, trunk dbh 35cm, trunk smooth, marked with longitudinal fissures, internodes 8cm. Leaves 28 in crown, costapalmate, leaf base split abaxially with triangular cleft, leaf base 60cm wide, margin with some dark brown fibre, petiole 3m long, 10cm thick at base, tapering to 5cm distally, 15cm wide, dark green throughout, accept at margins where pale yellowish green, pale brown indementum abaxially, adaxial surface shiny, petiole margins razor sharp, black. Leaf lamina dark shiny green both sides, circular in outline with outer margins overlapping, held more or less flat, except for a furrow near the costa, central radius c.1.8m, lateral radius c. 1.5m, basal radius c. 1.3m, 45 segments on each side of costa, lamina divisions more or less regular to just over half the radius. Adaxial hastula triangular, rather low. Male inflorescence with 4 massive rachillae, bare prtion of inflorescence c. 50cm, rachillae 70 cm long, dull purplish brown, male flowers emerging one at a time from pits, yellow, stamens 6 |
