| Field notes | Big to massive solitary palm, growing to 12 m tall. Dbh to 80 cm. Leaf 4.5 m long, petiole 2.5 m long, with black spines. Leaflets 101 pcs on each side of the rachis, 2 m long. Inflorescence, suprafoliar, hapaxanthic, to 2.5 m long, 24 branches, flowers good smell. Ripe fruit brown, 2 cm in diam. Uses: starch edible. Local name: Ugah (Marind lang.) |
