| Field notes | Big solitary palm, growing up to 25 m tall. Trunk to 25 cm in diameter; bark green in juvenile plant becomming whitish brown when adult, ringscars rather conspicuous. Crownshaft yellowish green 150 cm long. 10 leaves in the crown. Leaf 2.5-3 m long with 90 pcs leaflets on each side of the rachis. Inflorescence 100 cm long. 17 primary branches, 9-12 secondary branches. Young fruit green becomming blacky red when ripe. Uses: Bark used vfor flooring; sheath used for mattress and water pipe. Local name: Terep (Yei Lang.) |
