| Field notes | Cultivated juvenile, 9 leaves. The plant was given to Earlscliffe Garden as a small seedling by Christopher Bailes, Curator, Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Gardens, Rosemoor, Great Torrington, Devon, England, in 1995. Christopher Bailes had raised the plants from seed collected in Chile by Lady Ann Berry, who gave the gardens at Rosemoor to the RHS. According to Dr. David W. Robinson, after planting it in the garden, the young plant experienced the exceptionally cold 1995/1996 winter where the temperature fell to -7.5°C. This had no adverse effect on the seedling and this palm has proved to be the fastest growing palm in the garden. DNA voucher. |
