| Field notes | Acaulescent, caespitose palm with about 6-9 stems per cluster. Dioecious. Leaves c. 6-9 per stem, pinnate. Leaf sheath 225 cm long, with spines gathered in clusters of 1-7. Petiole triangular in CS to subterete, shallowly grooved above with minute spines. Leaf rachis 4,15 m long. Leaflets 2 x 42, 4-6 x 30-98 cm, glabrous below, above with small spines along the major veins. Inflorescence terminal, compact, partly hidden amongst the leaves. Female inflorescence erect. Young fruits globose and reddish brown. Peduncle 20-30 cm long. Peduncular bract c. 10 cm long.Rachis 10-14 cm long. Mature fruit obpyriform, c.6-8 cm in diameter. Seed 2-3, rounded c. 3 cm in diam.
