Field notes Cultivated in garden from seedling brought down from adjacent mountain ridges about l O years before. Solitary, c. 4.5 m tall palm tree. Leaf sheath c. 60 cm long, resolved in reddish brown fibrous mesh, covered by wooly tomentum on the petiolar side. Petiole c. 170 cm long, flatten above, armed with black, short, rounded spines. Leaves palmate, with shallow splits being up to 2.5 cm. at base, 3 cm. at middle, and 6 cm. at apex and deep splits being 35-40 cm at base, 55-60 cm at middle and 55-60 at apex.ยท Diameter of blade c. 48 cm as measured from the base to the hastula, 70 cm long from the middle to the hastula, and 77 cm from the apex to hastula, dark green above, covered with wax and glaucous green below. Inflorescences two. Estimated length of peduncle 30-35 cm. Peduncular bracts several, brown, chartaceous. Rachis l O cm long with 4 branches. Basal first order branch c. 25 cm long. Rachis branches and rachillae green. Flowers in pistillate phase yellowish green.
