Field notes Rhizomatous ground herb, up to 165 m tall. Leaves 4 - 7 per shoot; sheath 17 - 53 cm long, distichous, reddish brown upward to base, papery; petiole 27 - 51 cm long, ellipse in cross section, glabrous, pale green; pulvinus 4 - 6,3 cm long, fresh green than petiole; lamina 32.8 - 46 x 10.1 - 17.2 cm, oblong - oblanceolate, dark green above, greyish green below, upper primary vein whitish green, lower same like pulvinus, apex cuspidate to acuminate, basis equilateral. Inflorescence interfoliar, erect; peduncle 114 cm long, brown and reddish brown to base, green upwards to apical; synflorescence capitate, 16.6 cm long, reddish brown, primary bract 6.3 - 12.1 x 1.1 - 2 cm long, lanceolate, whitish green when fresh - brown and ripped when dry, base reddish brown; lateral bract 4 - 5.5 x 1 - 1.2 cm; flower 2 pairs per special paraclade; fruit 2 - 4 per orders, sometimes 1; first order fruits supported by stalk c. 15 mm long, sometimes branch less and one of the fruits have a pedicle longer than the other up to c. 15 mm long. Flower white, c. 6.3 cm long; sepals subulate, c. 24 x 4 mm. corolla tube c. 50 mm long; staminal tube c. 8 mm longer than corolla tube; petaloid staminode lobes 2, the first free petaloid lobe c. 25 x 12 mm: the second petaloid lobe with small trig appendage c. 15 x 20 mm; cucullate staminode c. 6 x 2 mm: stamen 6 mm; style 3 mm; ovary 4 mm. Fruit pale white, globose - triangular in cross section, 22 mm long, 12 mm in diameter, very small verrucose, white hairs, dehiscent, cell 3. sometimes 1 sterile; seed 3, c. 1 mm long, brown in spirits collection, very thin transparent aril.Uses: Food packing. Vn. Moskoifei (Meyach-Mandacan dialect).
