| Field notes | An understory plant, spreading by rhizomes, 2.2 m tall. Leaves alternate, with sheathing bases, 30-40 cm long and 12-15 cm wide. Flowers borne in a raceme on a short stalk rising from ground level. Flowers pinkish red, inferior ovary, 3 locules. Fruit immature. |
