| Field notes | Common in area, to 8 m or more tall, this one 4 m tall. Old leaf bases persistent with spiny petiole stubs 30 - 50 cm long. Ca. 35 - 40 green leaves in crown, the dried blades tardily falling. Inflorescence ca. 20, the base horizontal, the ends hanging from among the lower green leaves, this tree (and most here?) in full fruit with no flowers. Fruit ± yellow-green, the endosperm hard, white. Some seen in flower, the inflorescence then slightly abov the horizontal. al inflorescence on a plant seem always to be in the same stage. |
