| Field notes | Solitary. Stem 5 m tall, 7-8 cm diam., densely armed with black-grey flat spines. Leaves 10-12; sheath 65-75 cm long, densely armed with grey applanate spines; petiole 10-16 cm long; rachis 172 cm long, densely armed with long, black-grey spines; pinnae 30 per side, in groups of 4-6, separated by 20 cm, occupying 10-12 cm, middle pinnae 25-30 x 20-25 cm (basal of a group), 39-45 x 20-21 cm (apical of a group). Infructescences interfoliar, erect and arching; prophyll 45-50 x 5 cm; bract 155-182 x 5-5.5 cm, spiny, persistent, but hanging down; peduncle 93-116 cm long, ca. 2 cm diam, at base, 1-1.5 cm diam. at apex; rachis 65 cm long; rachillae 134-158; basal ones 36-40 cm, apical ones 5-8 cm. Fruits white, 21 x 23 mm; mesocarp hard, without taste. |
