Field notes Palm tree growing on a farm covered with many Borassus aethiopum individuals, closest settlement about 1 km away (Prusu community). Solitary, single-stemmed, adult palm with stem 19,5 m tall. Stem 38 cm in diameter at breast height, narrowing to 30 cm, and with characteristic swelling at the top 50 cm in diameter. Stem grey, smooth. Crown of 18 green leaves. Leaves costapalmate, costa 162 cm long, hastula 7 cm long, lamina width 230 cm. Basal segment (leaflet) 85 cm long, 40 segments per side. Petiole 140 cm long, green to brown, with black margins along both sides, armed with recurved dark brown spines 0,5cm long. Multiple adventitious roots 28-46 cm long and 0,5-1 cm in diameter. Female tree with 3 infructescences, 16-21 fruits per infructescence. Fruits orange, round, 15-18 cm long and with 40-42 cm circumference. 6 penduncular bracts 30-45 cm long, green to brown on the outside and yellow on the inside. Penduncle 80 cm long and 6-7 cm wide. Rachis 70 cm long and 6-7 cm wide. Leaves used for thatching, trunk used for construction, fruits used for food. Vernacular: mmaa kube; Language: Twi
