| Field notes | Queen's Palm is the common name. Solitary palm with 10 m x 19-20 cm trunk. 24 LEAVES in crown, spirally arranged and spreading. True leaf petiole absent but pseudopetiole (continuation of leaf sheath) to 140 cm long with fibrous margins and with a 30 cm wide fibrous leaf sheath, adaxially channeled and abaxially rounded. Leaf rachis 284-290 cm long. 178-181 pairs of pinnae which are distributed in clusters of 3-5 along the rachis in several planes. Middle pinnae 73-94 cm long x 2.3-2.7 cm wide. Androgynous INFLORESCENCE with 50-60 cm long peduncle, 110 cm long rachis and a terminus extending the total length of the inflorescence to 140 cm. 232 rachillae with a length of 28-31 cm at the apex and 40-55 cm at the base. Peduncular bract with a total length of 200 cm including a beak of 30 cm and the expanded or inflated part of the bract measuring 160 cm long x 19 cm in width. |
