| Field notes | Ariri is the common name. Solitary to clustered palm with acaulescent trunk. 5-9 LEAVES in crown, spirally arranged and spreading. Leaf petiole 2-23.5 cm( mostly under 10 cm) witlh smooth margins but with a fibrous leaf sheath and concave-convex in transection. Leaf rachis 44-62 cm. 25-36(42) pairs of pinnae which -ire distributed in clusters of 2-3 along, the rachis in severalplanes. Middle pinnae 1O.5-22 cm x. 1. 3-2( 2. 5) cm as measured in 12 leave,., from different plants. Androgynous INFLORESCENCE with 23-50 cm peduncle and 11-21 cm rachis . 4-9 rachillae with a lenglth of 7.5(3.5)-l3.5(15) cm. Peduncular bract 35-68 cm including a beak of 1-4 cm (mostly less than 2.5 cm) and the expanded or inflated part Of the bract measuring 10-47 cm >> 2'-3_5 cm whichis light orange in color when young. Immature FRUITS dark green with a whitish tormentum. This palm species very common in this area, S. coronata also found here with Allagoptera campestris said to exist in another part of the sierra |
