Field notes Catolé or Palmeira is the common name. Solitary palm with 5m x 35cm trunk. 15-20 leaves in crown, spirally arranged and strongly ascending. MAny persistent leaf bases extending for a distance of 1-4 m below the crown. Leaf petiole 106-135 cm with smooth margins but thick fibered on the sheathing base and concave-convex in transection. Leaf rachis 495-540 cm. 163-170 pairs of pinnae which are distributed in clusters of 2-4 along the lower one-third to onehalf of the rachis in several planes, but evenly distributed on the upper part. Middle pinnae 84-100 cm x 5-6 cm. Staminate interfoliar Inflorescence with 20-37+ cm peduncle and 76-85 cm rachis. 262 rachillae with a lenght of 11-17.5 cm. Peduncular bract 115-141 cm including a beak of 13-15 cm and the expanded or inflated part of the bract measuring 95 cm x 17-26 cm. PAlm species locally common in this area
