4 m tall, in disturbed primary forest. Inflorescence with red bracts. Flowers white. Nom. Vern.: Lu cacolan (Colorado); Caíno aeria (Spanish). Use: The inner part of the stem is grated and applied to the eyes to cure inflammations. The sap is drunk for pains in the liver and the kidneys and for urination problems.
