| Field notes | Cultivated shrub. Flowers white. Nom. Vern.: Tonga tape (Cayapa); Use: 1) For treatment of swellings after blows. Warm leaves are applied to the affected part to relieve the swelling. 2) The hallucinogenic effect of this plant is wellknown. Prep.: The leaves are macerated in cold water and the shamans drink a little of this mixture to have visions. Even leaves applied to the skin have an effect. |
