Field notes Sterile herb. Cultivated by the negroes. Stems and leaves below violet. Leaf violet-green above. Nom. Vern.: Tembo tape (Cayapa); Use: 1) For anaemia. Prep.: The leaves are macerated in cold water and the red mixture is drunk. It is said to be rich in vitamins too. 2) For a skin disease called "espardo". Prep.: The leaves are macerated in cold water, and about 3 teaspoonfuls of the mixture are drunk.
