Field notes Mid-storey solitary fan palm to 6m, 15 leaves in crown, leaf bases and sheaths persistent, trunk thick with moss and epiphytes, crown litter trapping, sheat inc fibrous ligules to 80cm, fibrous tattering at margins, petiole largely unarmed - with small spines along edge at base, leaf length to 2m inc petiole to 1.25m, central segment of leaf 82cm and 32cm wide at apex, multifold 23-27 leaflets per leaf in total, juvenile leaves entire, basal segment of leaf 67cm and 3cm wide at apex, fruit pale orange-yellow, large, globose, inflorescences interfoliar, branched to two orders, to 95cm, sheathing peduncular bracts and rachis bracts, 9 primary branches, 15 rachillae on first bramch, seed 2.5x2cm, encased in thick bony endocarp with numerous ridges and grooves.
