| Field notes | Solitary emergent tree palm to 35m, trunk diameter 16-18cm, dark green turning brown with age, internodes 5-18cm, crownshaft to 180cm, greybrown, 7 leaves in crown, leaf sheath to 130cm, dark olive green with thin white non-waxy bloom, faintly striate, sheath margin with fibrous ligule, 70/76/80 leaflets each side, leaf 3.32m inc 27cm petiole, strongly ascending - giving 'shuttlecock' appearance, leaflets somewhat stiff, held horizontal plane, strongly folded, arranged regularly with slight irregularity of arrangement near mid-region of leaf, thick grey-brown indumentum throughout petiole and rachis, leaflet tips strongly hooded, inflorescences infrafoliar, young inflorescence bud to 84cm, prophyll 78cm x 18cm, strongly keeled, yellow, rounded at tip, peduncular bract 70cm x 15cm, similar to prophyll but lacking keels, young inflorescence creamy-white, mature inflorescence at male anthesis - all axes dark pink, flower buds yellow-cream, longest 1st order branch 64cm, strongly recurved, rachillae 28-40cm long, peduncle short to 5cm. |
