| Field notes | Shrub. Maasai name: enchani orpurkel Used for "all kind of gonorrhea", particularly good for "bone-gonorrhea" and used mostly by elders. The roots can be mixed with honey beer or with soup, for the last is 4 root pieces 20 cm long and 1-2 fingers thick boiled in 3-4 litre soup for a few minutes after the meat and bones have been removed. The portion suits for 3-4 persons and has a cream-yellow colour and is very bitter. The treatment is repeated as long time as meat for soup is available or if ones start to recover then the soup will be mixed with other medicinal plants. Branches used for arrows as it is straight and hard. It is of the same quality for this purpose as Conyza payrohopappa. It is also used for construction of huts as "ireita" the small poles in the wall and as high estimated for the purpose as "osinoni". |
