| Field notes | Shrub, flowers white, ripe fruits black. Maasai name: alamuriaki The sweet ripe fruits are eaten. Used for "gonorrhea" particularly by elders, who can't urinate and young with for example. swollen knees. 4-6 root pieces 20 cm long and 1-3 cm thick is boiled for 1 1/2 hour in a half litre of soup made of head and hooves of a goat. It is a bit bitter and light brown. It is better for serious case of "gonorrhea" than Croton dichogamus, but the last is preferred as it has a good smell and can be mixed with honey beer and "alamuriaki" can provoke vomiting. Branches is good for fence around the crall, due to is big thorns and is also used for firewood. |
