Field notes Shrub 1 1/2 m high, flowers dark red with white. Vernacular name: cascarilla. Use: to tan leather: is putting in hot water with salt and lime to make the water acid. Medicine: contain quinine which cures malaria. Fragments removed for DNA extraction by Lennart Andersson (GB), 2003.
