Field notes Tree, outerlayer of bark pealing under which a smouth green bark appear. Maasai name: olerai (big), elerai (small). Used for fence around the boma. Inner bark is chewed by everybody, both the "engopit", which is pulled of like a string and the softer layer below this ""esirbibi", "esirbibi is the best, but only available on small trees and can be eaten, while "engopit" is chewed. only. Not as good as innerbark of "olchurrai", but better than "ong'wong'wenyi".Bark is used as robe to tie the construction of huts. The thin roots are used as brushes to clean calabash is the second best after root of "oiti". John Keretu: Decoction of bark is drunk to induce diarrhea. Can provoke vomiting, but not used for the purpose as it is difficult to stop the vomiting and therefore dangerous.
