Field notes Tree. Maasai name orng'wong'wenyi Used for construction of fence around the boma. Decoction of root mixed with milk is drunk as tea. Decoction of particularly root but also bark is mixed with soup, maizeporridge or milk to make a tea and drunk by women after delivery. Soup is preferred as it is the strongest. It helps to stop bleeding and increase the amount of milk. The amount is difficult to measure as it is also drunk by the helpers. It is not as good as "eluai", which is the most used in this area. The bark is used after abortion, 2 pieces as big as an open hand c. 3 cm thick is boiled 20-30 minutes in 1 litre water and drunk with a drop of milk to change the colour. It is very red and stimulates urination, which is appreciated as it clean the womb. William ole Seki: It stimulates urination, which help to clean the womb. John Keretu: Decoction of root mixed with meatsoup or milk if soup is not available are drunk by lactation women to increase the amount of milk. Fruits are good for smallstock in November and December. Koto kunyinya Nailole (called Ngilole), traditional mid-wife, Olmekeke: After abortion the women is given fat, eventually with "engoisikirianchoi", if enough fat isn't available. Then she is given a decoction of 2-4 pieces of bark as big as an open hand, which are boiled in 2 litre of water and mixed with one litre of soup or some fat. "Orng'wong'wenyi" support to clean the vomb and makes it dry, but is not as good as "eluai" for this purpose.
