| Field notes | Tree, flowers white. Maasai name: osupukiai Decoction of bark on old trees is used to mix with meatsoup to disolve fat. Four pieces of a size as an open hand is used for soup for up til 10 persons. It is not high estimated and not used at meatcamps and only if its easily available. Used to treat cows to deliver placenta. As many leaves as can be in two hands is pounded and rubbed in 5 litre water for half an hour. It is ready when leaves gets slimy, then filtered and water is given to the cow with force, it helps to remove placenta as it also gets slimy. Not as good as "oluai" but of same quality as "olnyaal". Used to treat women with pain in the stomach in the middle of their pregnancy to prevent abortion. 5-6 roots 20 cm long and as thick as 2 fingers is boiled in 1 litre of water and mixed with a drop of milk or a bit of fat and given to the women in accordance to their desire as long time as pain continue. It is not as good as medicine of "alasialeki" for this purpose. Bark is used for strings to tie construction of hut and better than "engominyara" (LE 584). The wood is high estimated for construction of roofs on huts with dungplastered roof, as they are straight, a bit flexible and resist fire very well. Leaves are eaten by cows, particularly in dry season. |
