| Field notes | Shrub. Maasai name: orkirenyi (big), enkirenyi (small). Used to cure "oloirobi". The bitter bark or leaves are chewed or a decoction of all parts of the plant is mixed with a little milk, last preparation particularly for children. It is red and bitter. William ole Seki: It is used in meatcamp, but with care as it can lead to lose of sexual appetite. Koto kunyinya Nailole (called Ngilole), traditional mid-wife, Olmekeke: Used for children with "oloirobi", one piece 1 finger thick and as long as two fingers of bark of steem are boiled for a few minutes and a bit of milk is added to reduce bitterness, as it is very bitter. Not as good as "oloisuki". |
