| Field notes | Maasai name: enkilenyai (small) orkilenyai (big) (~ that which twins / easily bendable). The red decoction of root is mixed with meatsoup and eaten by everybody. Decoction of root mixed with milk is drunk by women with stomach ache. Meshuko ole Mapi, oloiboni, mkidong'i-clan, living in Buti close to Makuyuni Root look likes beads on a string, it is smashed, dried and then grained to "entasimi" to treat women, who can't get pregnant. Strings of leather or "oldupai" is tied around their wrists and ankles and the women is tied to a tree with those strings. The "oloiboni" cuts the strings and the women bathe with a decoction of "armandaitet" (Loranthaceae) mixed with "entasimi" of this plant, the purpose is to clean before further treatment, which follow the advises obtained from the "enkidong'". "Ormogongora" and "osinandey" are often used in the further treatment. To increase the number of cattle the "entasimi" is burned in a fire called "olokor", which is made of firewood of "armagirigiriani" and "olorrien". Next morning the ashes is mixed with cattle dung and smeared on the cattle in a line from the head to the tail along the backbone. |
