| Field notes | Tree. Maasai name: oloilalei Fruits are eaten by everybody. Two straight poles are placed at each side the entrance to the mothers hut during the day of circumcision of her child. They are cutted by warriors the day before circumcision, before cutting milk is poured on the tree. The first cut is done with a certain axe, the rest with the warriors sward. The poles are carried close to the boma, where they are taken the following day of 4 warriors accompained by uncircumcied girls, while carry it to the boma they will sing. The mother invites them on milk. At eveningtime at the end of the celebration of the circumcision women will sourround the poles, while they sing. The poles will stay for 4 days after circumcision. Oloirago ole Mayanga, Ilchololik-agegroup, living in Aldarpoi: Decoction is drunk given after treatment with other medicines a.o. "engoisikirianchoi" and "armangulai", "orperr olong'o" and "eluai", as it supports them. It is the only species, which is used to support other medicines. 4-5 roots 20 cm long and up to 5 cm thick (if thicker divided and counted as two pieces) is boiled in 3 litre water for an hour. and is drunk mixed with milk and sugar as tea or used in a light maize porridge. Used to mix with meatsoup, as it disolve fat and has a very red colour. 5-6 rootpieces 20 cm long and c. 5 cm thick is boiled in 6-7 litre of water and mixed with 5 litre soup and drunk by 5-6 persons in accordance to their appetite. Koto kunyinya Nailole (called Ngilole), traditional mid-wife, Olmekeke: After abortion the women is given fat, eventually with "engoisikirianchoi", if enough fat isn't available. Then she is given a decoction of 2-4 pieces of bark as big as an open hand, which are boiled in 2 litre of water and mixed with one litre of soup or some fat. "Eluai" support to clean the vomb and makes it dry. "Orng'wong'wenyi" can also be used for same purpose, but is not of same quality. |
