| Field notes | Herb, flowers white. Maasai name: orng'eriandus lo ondoiye (ondoiye ~ girls). The red decoction of the root is mixed with milk to make it go further, called "olomelok" and given to children. Oloirago ole Mayanga, Ilchololik-age group, living in Aldarpoi: Used to treat transmitted gonorrhea and "bone-gonorrhea". A bundle of a size as one hand is boiled in 3 litre of water for 1 hour (gets very red, but not bitter) and mixed with 1 litre of meat soup, made of any part of the animal and drunk. The portion suits for 4 persons. The treatment is repeated three times at the same day and can be continued the next days if meat for soup is available. The roots can be used three times as the decoction gets very red. The medicine is not as good for this purpose as medicine made of "armame" (only found outside of Ngorongoro Conservation Area, on the other side of Kakesio), which is the best. Koto kunyinya Nailole (called Ngilole), traditional midwife: bark of root used to speed up digestion and for pain in the stomach, one spoon of dry bark is boiled in 1/2 litre of water for 20 minutes, and 2-3 spoons of fat can be added. Drunk twice a day. Colour is brown (observation). Can also be used for tea with milk and sugar, is without bitter taste. |
