| Field notes | Herb. Maasai name: engaiteteyai It is used in accordance to advises given by the "oloiboni" together with "entasimi". It is particularly used for "tieing" to protect against mouth and foot disease of cattle, called "oloirobi". It can also be used to treat women who miscarry, then the "oloiboni" ties around a buffalo horn with mixed milk and water of which everybody from the boma drink. Olootaosirwa ole Mako, oloiboni living in Piaya: Used for women, who can't bear. Engaiteteyai is boiled with milk, the former present the mans sperm and the later the women's vigour. It is drunk of eight times, and afterwards "entasimi" is licked four times before the women spend the night with her husband. Meshuko ole Mapi, oloiboni, nkidong'i-clan, living in Buti close to Makuyuni: It is used for washing children with "oloirobi". |
