Field notes Shrub with twining stem. Maasai name: oremit The stick are used for toothbrush. It is sold in towns. Bark of root as big as and forearm is steered in one litre of water and drunk by one person to provoke diarrhoea to clean the digestion system for parasites. It can also be prepared by heating until it boils and be mixed with a drop of milk. In some persons it can also induce vomiting, which is estimated as it reduces the amount of bile. The decoction can be mixed with cattle, goat or sheep urea and drunk, but it is dangerous and really make you vomit and diarrhoea a lot and soup mixed with plant decoction of for example "alchani lenkashe" must be given shortly after to balance the body. Not given to stop diarrhoea. Decoction of pealed root or bark or root already used for medicine is mixed with milk to make it go further, is used to the children satisfy their stomach called "olomelok". Oloirago ole Mayanga: Roots is drunk to provoke diarrhoea to remove hookworms. Inner bark of a root as big as a forearm is extracted and wringed in 1/2 litre of water for 5 minutes until it gets a bit thick and yellow, then filtered and mixed with a drop of milk or a spoon of fat. The portion suits for one person and are drunk at the same time. It is among the bitterest kind of medicine and even makes one sweat. Start to function after 1/2 hour and finish after c. 4 hours. No particularly food is needed after treatment. Treatment can be repeated, but first after 4-5 days and it isn't common to do. "Oremit" is the best for the purpose as it function quick and ones also recover quick (one can even see the hookworms are still moving in the faces), followed by "oloirrien", "ormukutan", "olodwa". All are bitter with "orimit" as the bitterest, followed by "", "ormukutan", "olodwa". It is seen as a coincidence that bitterness and highest estimation follow each other. Used to provoke vomiting to treat malaria and transmitted gonorrhea. Inner bark of a root as big as a forearm is extracted and wringed in 1 litre of water for 5 minutes until it gets a bit thick and yellow, then filtered. Vomiting is provoked by drinking a lot of water or sticking the fingers in the throat immediately after drinking the medicine, else it will cause diarrhoea. It is of same quality as "ormukutan" and "esirandet orkirrian". For transmitted gonorrhea a decoction of roots without bark drunk mixed with soup, can also be used, but first treatment is the most efficient, as roots without bark aren't strong. Only "olodwa" and "orimit" is used to provoke vomiting to treat transmitted gonorrhea, for all other plants a decoction is made and drunk mixed with soup. ole Sanguyan, Sendui: Used to provoke vomiting: bark of root 1 metre long and 3 cm thick is mixed and stirred in 1 litre of water for a few minutes. React very quick and stop to function again after 2-3 hours. Not as good as "alchani onyokie" for provoking diarrhoea. Kambona ole Sanguyan, Sendui, Irking'onde-age group: Used particularly by warriors staying in temporary boma, called "ronjo", while taking care of the cattle to mix with milk to provoke diarrhoea. Bark of a root piece 20 cm long and 1 1/2 cm thick is stirred in one litre of fresh milk and heated until it boils, stirred again, then filtered and stored for 12 hours and drunk by one person. React quick and one begins to diarrhoea after 2-4 hours. After some hours one can eat any kind of food and it will stop the diarrhoea. The treatment makes one feel strong and in a good condition. Can also be used in maize porridge, not to provoke diarrhoea: For maize porridge made on water 2 pieces 20 cm long and c. 5 cm thick is extracted/boiled ? for a few minutes in 2 litre of water, without it changes it's colour. The water is then used for porridge for two persons. For porridge prepared on milk half amount of "oremit" is used as milk support / stimulate the reaction, where porridge reduce reaction. The porridge made with "oremit" is considered as food, while the extraction?? in itself is considered as medicine.
